A recent report validates suspicions held by fans and fellow followers of the DCEU from a few years back, supported by current trends and available information. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s endeavour to dominate the cinematic universe and position himself at its core has been confirmed.
According to The Wrap, Dwayne Johnson aimed for his production company, Seven Bucks Productions, which co-produced “Black Adam” and “Shazam!”, to assume leadership of DC Films from Walter Hamada and his underperforming tenure, which delivered “The Flash” and “Birds of Prey”.
The report alleges that Johnson and his ex-wife/business partner, Dany Garcia, held a meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in 2022. While the primary focus was on “Black Adam” and the potential return of Henry Cavill as Superman, inside sources claim that Johnson also used the opportunity to advocate for greater influence.

As “Black Adam” underperformed, Dwayne Johnson’s aspirations fizzled, leading to James Gunn and Peter Safran’s rise to the helm of the revamped DC Studios. In the aftermath, reports surfaced of Henry Cavill severing ties with Garcia as his manager.
Johnson’s attempt to bolster his position with purported profit figures for the film proved misleading, as subsequent scrutiny revealed.
Furthermore, sources cited by The Wrap shed light on alleged behavioral issues, including chronic tardiness and unprofessional conduct, during the filming of the Amazon Prime movie “Red One,” along with peculiar bathroom habits attributed to the actor.

Insiders say he has shown up late and delayed production by up to eight hours. In other cases on various productions, possibly even Black Adam, Johnson has shown an aversion to public restrooms and peed in water bottles to avoid them and save time.
This upset crew members as they were tasked with disposal, according to one insider. “On set, away from his trailer, if he needs to pee, he doesn’t go to the public bathroom,” they said. “He pees in a Voss water bottle and his team or a PA has to dispose of it.”

According to one source, the situation was described as “a disaster… Dwayne truly doesn’t give a f-ck.” Another remarked on his habits during the production of Red One, stating, “The only thing Dwayne was consistent at was being chronically late.”
Others characterized his behaviour as “a control thing,” highlighting his reluctance to work beyond four or five-hour days. Additionally, reports indicate instances where Johnson violated COVID protocols, and concerns have been raised about the lack of experience among executives under him at Seven Bucks Productions.

Despite the negative portrayal, representatives from Amazon/MGM have refuted the insiders’ assertions. “Dwayne Johnson and Seven Bucks have been incredible partners on ‘Red One’ – a film that audiences of all ages are going to love this holiday season,” stated one spokesperson.
“Our testing has been very strong – the reaction from CinemaCon speaks for itself – and we couldn’t have made it without Dwayne’s constant work and support,” they added. “Any reporting that implies that we got to this point with him showing up seven-eight hours late to set is both ridiculous and false.”
Johnson recently returned to WWE and assumed a major seat on the board of its parent company TKO, which arose from a merger with the UFC.
