Just a month ago, David Leitch, the director behind John Wick, was slated to helm the next instalment of the Jurassic World saga (rumored to be titled Jurassic City). However, due to “creative differences,” Leitch departed, making way for Gareth Edwards, known for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and The Creator, to step in swiftly.
Since then, the cast has swiftly begun to take shape. Talks are underway with Scarlett Johansson to lead the movie (with rumors suggesting Dev Patel’s involvement as well), and now, there’s buzz about the film’s primary antagonist.
According to insider Daniel Richtman, Colman Domingo, renowned for his roles in Fear The Walking Dead and The Colour Purple, is being considered for the villainous role in Jurassic City. Domingo, recently nominated for an Oscar for his performance in Rustin, promises to bring a formidable presence to the franchise’s newest chapter.

As expected, details about Domingo’s character remain under wraps for now.
What’s clear, however, is that neither Chris Pratt nor Bryce Dallas Howard, stars of Jurassic World, are expected to reprise their roles. Additionally, franchise stalwarts Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill are not set to return either.
David Koepp, the writer of Jurassic Park and The Lost World: Jurassic Park is penning the screenplay, with Steven Spielberg serving as executive producer.

The Jurassic franchise originated with the iconic release of Jurassic Park in 1993, directed by Steven Spielberg and adapted from Michael Crichton’s novel. The film chronicles a group of individuals visiting a dinosaur-themed amusement park situated on a secluded island. However, chaos ensues when the genetically engineered dinosaurs escape their confines, unleashing havoc upon the visitors.
The film’s immense success spawned numerous sequels, including The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001), each delving deeper into the implications of dinosaur cloning and mankind’s attempts to control these prehistoric creatures for commercial gain or scientific advancement.
In 2015, the franchise underwent a thrilling reboot with Jurassic World, setting the stage for a new series of films that explore the ongoing consequences of meddling with nature’s ancient marvels. Universal Pictures is eagerly pushing ahead to bring Jurassic City to cinemas at the earliest opportunity, locking in a release date of July 2, 2025.
