DC Studios’ inaugural film, “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story,” is set to hit theatres this September, offering a poignant exploration of the life and legacy of the iconic actor who brought Superman to life on the big screen.
Christopher Reeve’s portrayal of the Man of Steel in “Superman: The Movie” continues to serve as a benchmark for actors stepping into the role, inspiring generations of filmmakers. Despite a tragic accident in 1995 that left Reeve paralyzed from the shoulders down, he continued to act and advocate for various causes until his passing in 2004.
At Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation, DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran announced the launch of the documentary, ensuring it receives the recognition it deserves. “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” promises to offer insights from filmmaker Richard Donner, collaborators, and Reeve’s children, providing a touching tribute to a cinematic legend.

“Everyone at Warner Bros. Discovery is incredibly proud to come together as one company to partner with Christopher Reeve’s family and the filmmakers behind ‘Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story’ and bring his personal journey to audiences the world over,” a Warner Bros. Discovery spokesperson said in a statement.
“WBD’s DC Studios, Warner Bros. Motion Pictures, HBO, CNN Films and Max are grateful for the opportunity to honour one of our company’s most cherished creative partners and to celebrate Christopher’s rich life and career.”
Last year, Alexandra Reeve Givens, daughter of Christopher Reeve, teased some exciting details about the upcoming documentary, which was acquired by the studio for $15 million at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
“One of the joys is that they uncovered so much archival footage,” she said. “So there’s the outtakes from the original audition for Superman, interviews with dad from the ’70s and ’80s when we were still young kids.”
“Seeing him at the height of fame and even old home movies we hadn’t spent much time with – suddenly we’re uncovering these moments and seeing them on the big screen. All of that woven together has been really beautiful and powerful,” Alexandra added.

In Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, never-before-seen home movies and extraordinary personal archives reveal how Christopher Reeve went from unknown actor to iconic movie star as the ultimate screen superhero. He learned the true meaning of heroism as an activist after suffering a tragic accident that left him quadriplegic and dependent on a ventilator to breathe.
