New Insight from Insider Daniel Richtman on Thunderbolts Footage in Florence Pugh’s MCU Set Video.

New plot details for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts have emerged, revealing how Bucky Barnes and The Sentry factor into the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover movie.

After Thunderbolts star Florence Pugh shared a cryptic video from the set of the MCU movie, which featured a first look at actual footage from the Marvel Studios production, industry insider Daniel Richtman has offered up new insight into the hotly-anticipated movie on his subscription-based Patreon account (via X). According to Richtman, Pugh and the rest of the Thunderbolts cast are currently filming scenes at a location with a vault, which is where The Sentry (Lewis Pullman) is found.

Richtman also disclosed that Bucky Barnes won’t initially be part of the Thunderbolts team, hinting at his rejection of CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s offer. This contradicts Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s previous statement from February 2023, where Barnes was expected to be the “de facto leader” of the Thunderbolts. However, it leaves room for speculation whether Sebastian Stan’s character might assume a leadership role after eventually joining the team.

Thunderbolts Drawing Parallels with Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The upcoming MCU movie Thunderbolts reportedly revolves around the title team embarking on a mission meant to culminate in their demise. While details beyond the main characters remain scarce, parallels to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story are evident. In the 2016 film, a group of rebels undertakes a perilous quest to secure the Death Star plans, ultimately sacrificing their lives for success, akin to Thunderbolts’ mission. However, Thunderbolts may diverge from this narrative, as the team seems poised to defy fate and strive to avert their foreseen demise.

Who are the Thunderbolts?

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Thunderbolts will feature an impressive lineup alongside Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier. This includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova/Black Widow, along with David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian and Olga Kurylenko as Antonia Dreykov/Taskmaster from Black Widow. Joining them are Hannah John-Kamen as Ava Starr/Ghost from Ant-Man and the Wasp, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker/U.S. Agent from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Returning to the fold is Julia Louis-Dreyfus as CIA Director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, with Geraldine Viswanathan in an undisclosed role. Additionally, Laurence Fishburne and Rachel Weisz are expected to reprise their MCU roles as Bill Foster and Melina Vostokoff, respectively.

Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts is slated to close out Phase 5 of the MCU on May 2, 2025.
