In a surprising turn of events, Marvel Studios has reportedly ousted X-Men ‘ 97 showrunner Beau DeMayo mere days before the animated revival’s highly anticipated Disney+ premiere…
As the highly anticipated debut of X-Men ’97 on Disney+ draws near, Marvel Studios drops a major bombshell.
According to THR, show creator, writer, and executive producer Beau DeMayo has been abruptly fired.

DeMayo, known for his work on Disney+ series Moon Knight and early drafts of the upcoming Blade reboot, reportedly parted ways with Marvel last week. The reasons behind this sudden departure remain undisclosed. DeMayo’s company email and Instagram accounts have been deactivated, and the cast and crew have been notified of his exit from the project.
Despite attempts to reach out, Marvel has remained silent on the matter. DeMayo’s representatives have not responded to inquiries, and the showrunner himself has not issued any statements.
DeMayo had been actively promoting the show on social media and had scheduled interviews for the upcoming week. His presence was also expected at the red carpet premiere in Hollywood tomorrow.
While creative conflicts between studios and talent are not uncommon, the timing of this split, so close to the project’s premiere, is unusual.
We’ll continue to monitor this situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
In THR’s report addressing the series’ delay due to strikes, X-Men ’97 is described as a “spiritual and tonal continuation” of the beloved 1990s series that aired on Fox, serving as a “retro love letter” to the original. Additionally, plans for a second season have been confirmed.
The upcoming series will directly follow the narrative of X-Men: The Animated Series, extending its five-season legacy. Speculation abounds that it might also lay the groundwork for the team’s future debut in the live-action MCU, albeit subtly.
Returning to voice their iconic roles are Lenore Zann as Rogue, Cal Dodd as Wolverine, Catherine Disher as Jean Grey, George Buza as Beast, Chris Potter as Gambit, Adrian Hough as Nightcrawler, Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm, Christopher Britton as Mister Sinister, and Alyson Court as Jubilee.
The official synopsis hints at a gripping narrative: “Storm and Wolverine lead the charge to keep the X-Men alive. However, Magneto emerges, offering a different path in the absence of Charles Xavier. As tensions rise, the sinister presence of Mister Sinister threatens to extinguish the X-Men once and for all.
