20th Century Studios Unveils Full Trailer for The First Omen, Following Yesterday’s Hair-Raising Poster.
20th Century Studios has unleashed the full trailer and a fresh poster for The First Omen, boldly dubbing the occult prequel “the most terrifying movie of the year.”
While it might be a tad early to make such claims (perhaps awaiting the critics’ verdicts first), the studio is clearly brimming with confidence in director Arkasha Stevenson’s resurrection of the iconic horror franchise, known for her work on Legion and Briarpatch.
In this spine-chilling tale, Nell Tiger Free, known for her role in Servant, takes on the role of a young American woman embarking on a journey to Rome, intending to devote her life to serving the church. However, her path is veiled in darkness, leading her to question her own beliefs as she stumbles upon a sinister plot aiming to bring forth the embodiment of evil.
Curiosity abounded regarding how this narrative would tie into the original Omen trilogy, which revolved around the ascent of Satan’s son, Damien Thorne. The trailer now seemingly confirms that The First Omen delves into the harrowing backstory of the Antichrist’s conception and birth, predating his unwitting adoption into the Thorne family.
Indeed, the pregnant protagonist portrayed in the trailer appears to be Damien’s mother – a far cry from resembling a jackal!

“When a young American woman is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate. The First Omen stars Nell Tiger Free (Servant), Tawfeek Barhom (Mary Magdalene), Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman), Ralph Ineson (The Northman), and Bill Nighy (Living).
The film is directed by Arkasha Stevenson based on characters created by David Seltzer (The Omen), with a story by Ben Jacoby (Bleed) and a screenplay by Tim Smith & Arkasha Stevenson and Keith Thomas (Firestarter). The producers are David S. Goyer (Hellraiser) and Keith Levine (The Night House) and the executive producers are Tim Smith, Whitney Brown (Rosaline), and Gracie Wheelan.
The original movie, which still retains its power to chill, told the story of an American ambassador (Gregory Peck) and his wife (Lee Remick), who slowly come to the realization that their adopted child, Damien, is the son of Satan. The movie spawned a pair of inferior sequels and a 2006 remake which, while technically well-made, completely failed to recapture the dread of the ’70s film.
The First Omen is set to arrive in theatres on April 5.
