In the upcoming New Jedi Order film, Daisy Ridley teases the differences between Rey and Luke Skywalker that will be explored.

At the recent South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW), Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley provided insight into her character’s return to the beloved space franchise. Ridley, who portrays Rey Skywalker, revealed that her character’s journey as a Jedi Master and her approach to rebuilding the Jedi Order will diverge significantly from that of Luke Skywalker.

During an interview with Den of Geek, Ridley was asked about any differences between Rey and Luke in their efforts to establish a new generation of Jedi. Ridley responded affirmatively, indicating that Rey’s approach will indeed differ from Luke’s. She expressed her anticipation for the upcoming film, stating, “I am [excited]. It’s very strange. I’ve gone off and done all sorts of films, and I feel like I’ve learned a lot and grown a lot as an actor. I think [the New Jedi Order movie] will be like baby steps again. It’ll be like starting at the beginning again [like in 2015’s The Force Awakens].”

Last year at Star Wars Celebration Europe in London, England, the highly anticipated Rey-centric film, tentatively titled Star Wars: New Jedi Order, was officially announced. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, known for her work on episodes of Ms. Marvel for Marvel Studios and Disney, has been tapped to direct the project.

Details about the plot of the new film are scarce at this point. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy disclosed that the story will unfold 15 years after the events depicted in The Rise of Skywalker.

As of now, Daisy Ridley, reprising her role as Rey, is the sole confirmed cast member from the sequel trilogy. However, speculation is rife that John Boyega and Oscar Isaac may also make a return alongside Ridley. Stay tuned as more updates on Star Wars: New Jedi Order emerge.

Recent rumors surrounding the upcoming Star Wars film indicate that Lucasfilm and Disney are actively engaged in the casting process, searching for actors to portray Rey’s two new apprentices. This development solidifies Rey’s position as a Jedi Master and mentor to the burgeoning new generation of Jedi.

Additionally, speculation has emerged regarding acclaimed Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Angela Bassett potentially joining the Star Wars universe. Bassett, known for her Academy Award-nominated performance in the MCU sequel, is rumoured to have met with Lucasfilm to discuss a role in an upcoming Star Wars project. Speculation suggests that she could potentially portray the villain in the highly anticipated New Jedi Order movie.

The next Star Wars movie is reportedly going to be The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to go into production later this year for a May 22, 2026 release date. Disney also has an untitled Star Wars film dated for December 2026 as well, a possible release date for the return of Daisy Ridley’s Rey in her new movie.
