Lionsgate Chairman Michael Burns Announces Expansion of John Wick Franchise.

During a Q&A session at the Morgan Stanley media conference, Lionsgate Chairman Michael Burns announced the expansion of the John Wick franchise. “I think we’ll take one of our great action franchises starring Keanu Reeves. I think it’ll be a television series” he stated, as reported by Deadline.

John Wick Chapter 4

The upcoming series follows the three-part prequel miniseries, The Continental, which premiered on Peacock in October 2023. Reflecting on the neo-noir crime drama, Burns mentioned, “We ended up making a very relatively short-term deal on that show with Peacock and Amazon.”

Director Chad Stahelski, known for his work on the John Wick franchise, has hinted at the possibility of a television series delving into The High Table, the enigmatic organization governing Wick’s shadowy assassin culture. Stahelski emphasized that this potential series would be “completely separate” from The Continental, which delves into the origins of Winston Scott and his role as manager of the eponymous New York hotel.

John Wick Series May Introduce Fresh Faces and Characters

Chad Stahelski Contemplates Expanding John Wick Universe with Characters from Chapter 4.

“I love Donnie [Yen], I love Rina [Sawayama], love the Tracker [Shamier Anderson], and the TV show and the ancillaries will give us a chance to expand the kind of fun world we’ve created,”

“I think TV is a better format for that because you don’t have to spend so much time with the first act set up and all that.”

Although Stahelski chose not to get too involved in Ballerina – the upcoming sequel to John Wick 4 – he would relish any opportunity to further the franchise

“If something clicked with me, like, believe me, man, all the ideas that our group of writers are working on now, I swear to you, I like them all. If you told me tomorrow, I had to do any one of them, I’d be like, ‘Cool, man. That’s a great way to spend a year.’ They’re all cool ideas, and I have ideas on how I’d execute all of them

“That’s what’s so fun about keeping it going. And we’re doing a John Wick TV show, which, again, keeps my head going.”

While details about the plot and characters of the new John Wick series are scarce, fans can expect a faithful adaptation similar to The Continental.

For those eager to catch up on the action, John Wick: Chapter 4 is available for streaming on Starz, while the rest of the John Wick films and The Continental can be found on Peacock.
