Bringing Caulifla and Kale Back with Ultra Ego and Ultra Instinct: Perfect Fan-Favorites from the Tournament of Power.
Dragon Ball Super’s Universal Survival Saga introduced a myriad of fresh faces to the franchise, notably during the Tournament of Power. Among the standout newcomers were Universe 6 Saiyans Caulifla and Kale, who quickly captured fans’ hearts as the first female Super Saiyans in the series. Their dynamic personalities, electrifying battles, and fusion into Kefla made them unforgettable. However, post-Tournament of Power, they’ve been noticeably absent from the narrative.
In subsequent arcs of the Dragon Ball Super manga, Goku honed his Ultra Instinct while Vegeta tapped into Ultra Ego, achieving incredible feats against formidable foes like Moro and Gas. Yet, their newfound powers proved insufficient against Black Frieza. As they rally allies like Gohan, Broly, Goten, Trunks, and Piccolo, speculation arises that Caulifla and Kale’s mastery of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego could tip the scales in their battle against Frieza.
Who Are Dragon Ball’s Caulifla and Kale?

Caulifla, the formidable leader of a Saiyan gang hailing from Universe 6, embodies a tomboyish, arrogant demeanor, reveling in the thrill of combat and the pursuit of strength. Despite her tough exterior, she harbors a softer side reserved for her closest confidant and protégé, Kale. In stark contrast to Caulifla, Kale is meek, timid, and socially awkward, lacking the typical Saiyan thirst for battle and struggling with self-confidence.
Recruited by Cabba to bolster Universe 6’s team for the Tournament of Power, Caulifla and Kale’s unique abilities were sought by the universe’s God of Destruction, Champa, in a bid to rival the prowess of Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan. With Cabba’s guidance, Caulifla unlocked not only Super Saiyan but also ascended to Super Saiyan 2, while Kale tapped into her latent potential to become Universe 6’s Legendary Super Saiyan.
During the tournament, Caulifla and Kale emerged as formidable adversaries, eliminating numerous opponents with their combined strength. Guided by Goku, Caulifla refined her combat skills from crude brawling to refined martial arts, while Kale found newfound confidence and combat resolve under Caulifla’s mentorship.
In a climactic showdown against Goku, Caulifla and Kale merged using the Potara earrings to become Kefla, showcasing impressive power but ultimately succumbing to Goku’s Ultra Instinct.
Despite their popularity, Kefla, with her overwhelming power and presence as a playable character in Dragon Ball FighterZ, eclipses Caulifla and Kale. With Kale’s submissive tendencies, Kefla embodies Caulifla’s persona amplified by an even larger ego. Armed with Super Saiyan 2 transformation and her signature attack, Gigantic Burst, Kefla proved to be a formidable adversary, even matching Super Saiyan Blue Goku and battling Ultimate Gohan to a draw in the Dragon Ball Super manga.
Kefla Could Be a Key Ally for Goku and Vegeta

The ongoing manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero revisits the film’s narrative before shifting focus back to the looming threat of Black Frieza. Goku and Vegeta’s recent defeat at the hands of Black Frieza, despite their formidable Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego forms, signals the need for additional allies. As they endeavor to strengthen themselves, Gohan, Broly, Piccolo, Goten, and Trunks stand ready to assist, but the potential role of Kefla as a crucial ally cannot be overstated.
Kefla’s constituent fighters, Caulifla and Kale, possess unique attributes that could lead her to unlock both Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego. Caulifla’s similarities to Goku in their shared enthusiasm for growth and combat suggest a potential path towards mastering Ultra Instinct. Meanwhile, Kale’s latent power as the Legendary Super Saiyan offers a transformative opportunity for Kefla’s development, potentially leading her towards Ultra Ego, especially under Champa’s tutelage.
The prospect of Kefla joining the ranks of the Z-Fighters not only excites fans due to her popularity but also promises significant character growth and dynamic interactions within the group. Her fusion of Ultra Instinct and Ultra Ego could inspire Goku to explore a similar fusion, potentially leading to a decisive strategy against Black Frieza.
As the saga unfolds, the incorporation of Kefla’s unique abilities and character arc adds a layer of anticipation to the ongoing conflict, offering intriguing possibilities for the future of Dragon Ball Super’s narrative.
