Last year, Sony Pictures dropped the bombshell that they were cooking up a live-action Spider-Man Noir series for Amazon Prime Video, and now, it seems they’ve caught their web-slinger!

According to the juicy grapevine at The Ankler, none other than Nicolas Cage (yeah, the dude from Ghost Rider and The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent) is supposedly having some serious chit-chats to reprise his vocal cords in a live-action rendition of the superhero, after lending his voice in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse.

This untitled series (bet your spidey sense is tingling for it to be called Spider-Man Noir) is rumored to trail a weathered superhero navigating the gritty streets of 1930s New York City. And guess what? It’s carving its own niche universe, where our main hero won’t be your friendly neighborhood Peter Parker!

Sure, the comic book Spider-Man Noir is just a fancy variant of Peter Parker, but this series seems dead-set on giving him a makeover to avoid any tangled webs of confusion.

Leading this comic book caper is Oren Uziel, who’s scribbled down romantic escapades in The Lost City, as well as the action-packed tales of 22 Jump Street, Mortal Kombat, and The Cloverfield Paradox. Oh, and he’s got his name inked on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the upcoming Borderlands video game adaptation.

And if that wasn’t enough, we’ve got the masterminds behind Into the Spider-Verse, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, along with former Sony bigwig Amy Pascal, all donning their executive producer hats for this wild ride.

So, Sony and Amazon are still playing with their Spider toys, huh? They’re cooking up a Silk: Spider Society series under the watchful eye of showrunner Angela Kang. But here’s the kicker: they just chucked the whole bunch of writers out the window! Yep, you heard that right. Don’t worry, though, Kang’s still chillin’ in the captain’s chair. But get this: rumor has it they’re eyeing a pivot towards the dude-bro demographic. Because who needs silk when you can have, uh, silk-adjacent content?

And speaking of Spider folk, our beloved Nicolas Cage didn’t drop by for the recent shindig in Across the Spider-Verse. But don’t fret, he’s dusting off his fedora and trench coat for the grand finale, Beyond the Spider-Verse. Guess they couldn’t keep him away from the spider-web for too long, huh? Maybe he’s just waiting for the paycheck to come back around.

Now, let’s talk about Cage’s role as Noir. In Into the Spider-Verse, he was like the comic relief, the guy who’d make you chuckle while swinging through skyscrapers. But hey, don’t be fooled by the jokes, folks. The comics paint a much darker picture. So, will this live-action show dive into the shadows or keep it light and breezy? Either way, count us in for some spider shenanigans!
