Marvel’s Echo Joins List of MCU Disappointments on Disney+: Worse Ratings than Ms. Marvel

Marvel’s latest addition to the MCU, Echo, appears to have followed in the footsteps of other recent disappointments on Disney+. With all five episodes released at once on Disney+ and Hulu, it’s challenging to compare ratings directly to shows with weekly releases. However, when looking at average ratings per episode, Echo seems to have fallen even lower than expected.

It’s likely that the initial viewers who tuned in for the first episode continued to binge-watch the entire series. Thus, assessing the average rating per episode paints a clear picture of the series’ performance.

Nielsen Top 10: Echo’s Mixed Reception on Disney+ and Hulu

Nielsen’s latest report reveals that during the week when all five episodes of Echo were released, viewers collectively spent 731 million minutes watching the series, securing its spot in the Nielsen Top 10 for the week.

However, it’s crucial to note that this figure encompasses the combined minutes watched for all five episodes. On average, each episode amassed approximately 146.2 million minutes. While the initial episodes likely garnered higher viewership numbers, subsequent episodes experienced a decline in viewership, leading to a decrease in average minutes watched per episode.

Furthermore, Echo’s availability on both Disney+ and Hulu further dilutes its performance on Disney+, as the Nielsen charts encompass data from both platforms. Therefore, the 146.2 million minutes per episode are divided between both streaming services.

In contrast, other MCU shows were exclusively released on Disney+.

When comparing Echo’s average viewership to the first episode of other MCU shows on Disney+, the results paint a grim picture of its reception.

Nielsen Ratings Comparison: How Echo Stacks Up Against Other MCU Shows on Disney+

To put Echo’s performance into perspective, let’s compare its viewership numbers to those of other popular MCU shows on Disney+:

Ms. Marvel: 249 million minutes for the week Episode 1 was released.

Secret Invasion: 461 million minutes for the week Episode 1 was released.

She-Hulk: The first episode didn’t make the Nielsen ratings, but the subsequent weeks saw 390 million and 472 million minutes respectively, slightly better than Echo‘s average.

Hawkeye: 853 million minutes for the week the first two episodes were released.

Moon Knight: 418 million minutes for the week Episode 1 was released.

Loki Season 1: 731 million minutes.

Loki Season 2: 446 minutes.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier: 628 million minutes.

WandaVision: 434 million minutes.

Considering Echo’s initial week’s performance, it’s unlikely to maintain its presence in the Nielsen charts for the second week, as viewership likely peaked during the initial release. This sentiment is echoed in reviews, with some critics labelling the series a ‘dumpster fire.’ The lackluster performance of MCU shows on Disney+ raises questions about the quality of content being produced despite substantial investments from Disney.
