Todd Phillips, the director behind Joker: Folie à Deux, shares intriguing new stills depicting Joaquin Phoenix reprising his role as Arthur Fleck, alongside Lady Gaga’s fresh take on Harley Quinn.

In response to a fan inquiry, Phillips hints at the eagerly awaited first trailer for the film, slated for a mid-April release.
Take a glimpse into the captivating world of Joker: Folie à Deux below.
While plot details remain secretive, recent reports hint that much of the upcoming sequel will unfold within the confines of Arkham. Additionally, expectations swirl around the inclusion of musical numbers, although cinematographer Lawrence Sher has tempered this speculation in a recent interview.
Sher clarified, “[It] isn’t a musical per se, it just has music in it. The music is part of the film and the characters but I don’t know if it’s a musical. But yes, there is music.”
On the other hand, composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, who earned an Oscar for her exceptional score in the first movie, addressed these musical rumours during a press tour for A Haunting in Venice last year, offering insights that hinted at a different narrative.
Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir teased, “All I can say is there is going to be a lot of music.” Yet, the exact role of music in the sequel to Todd Phillips’ dark psychological thriller remains shrouded in mystery.
While some fans have reservations about the prospect of a musical follow-up, others are intrigued by the concept. Speculation suggests that the narrative may explore Harley and Fleck’s distorted perspectives, potentially incorporating musical numbers as part of their delusions.
Reports indicate that the soundtrack will draw heavy inspiration from classic Liza Minelli musicals like Cabaret and New York, New York. This aligns with Lady Gaga’s admiration for Minelli, hinting at a musical direction for the sequel.
Although it’s uncertain if Gaga will contribute to the soundtrack, there’s speculation that she may write at least one song for the film.

Joining Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, Zazie Beetz returns as Sophie Dumond, while new cast members Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, Jacob Lofland, and Harry Lawtey take on undisclosed roles.
Unlike the main DCU, the Joker sequel exists as an “Elseworlds” project, alongside other standalone films like Matt Reeves’ The Batman and J.J. Abrams’ Superman. Additionally, Constantine 2 is rumoured to follow suit.
Mark your calendars for October 4, 2024, when Joker: Folie à deux hits theatres.
