Abigail, the upcoming ballerina vampire movie from Radio Silence (known for V/H/S, Southbound, Scream, Scream VI), has officially received an R rating due to its intense bloody violence and gore.
After the blood-soaked first trailer, Radio Silence’s latest horror offering has officially been rated R for ‘Strong bloody violence and gore throughout, pervasive language, and brief drug use.’ Directed by Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, and produced by Chad Villella, the teaser for Abigail introduces Alisha Weir, known for Matilda the Musical, as a seemingly innocent ballerina abducted by a gang, only to reveal her dark secret as a bloodthirsty vampire.
Tyler Gillett shares, ‘It just felt like, ‘This is the iconic feel of the movie.’ The imagery is this young girl, in a tutu, covered in blood because she’s been on a killing spree. Our goal is always to find and design a character that feels like, ‘Ooh, [frick], that’s gonna be a cool Halloween costume.”
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin adds, ‘In the opening scene she was at a ballet class, and it was kind of a part of the character. But once we met Alisha, she was like, ‘I’m really good at dancing’, and it became ‘Ooh, let’s steer into that. Let’s make that part of the identity of the movie.”

Radio Silence, known for their modern horror hits like Ready or Not and the recent entries in the Scream franchise, presents a chilling new take on the vampire genre with Abigail. Written by Stephen Shields and Guy Busick, this film follows a group of would-be criminals who kidnap the 12-year-old daughter of a powerful underworld figure, hoping to collect a $50 million ransom by watching her overnight. However, they soon realize they’re locked inside an isolated mansion with something far from a normal little girl.
Starring Melissa Barrera, Dan Stevens, Kathryn Newton, William Catlett, Kevin Durand, and Angus Cloud as the kidnappers, Abigail promises a brash and blood-thirsty vision of the vampire flick.
Produced by William Sherak, Paul Neinstein, James Vanderbilt, Tripp Vinson, and Chad Vilella for Project X Entertainment and Radio Silence, this film is set to hit theaters on April 19.
