With the official announcement of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, fans can look forward to the worldwide reveal at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9th, followed by a Call of Duty Direct presentation.

After a series of teaser videos, Activision has officially announced Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Previous rumours and leaks hinted at this year’s instalment in the blockbuster shooter franchise returning to the Black Ops series, with speculation suggesting a setting during the Gulf War. However, the latest videos suggest a contemporary or near-future setting.

Activision confirmed that the worldwide reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will occur on Sunday, June 9 at 10:00 a.m. PT, coinciding with the Xbox Games Showcase. Additionally, Activision will host a more in-depth Black Ops 6 Direct immediately following the Xbox Games Showcase.

The Xbox Games Showcase is expected to feature a global reveal trailer, while the Black Ops 6 Direct will likely delve into gameplay details and product announcements, potentially including a release date and pre-order information.

Last Gen Consoles

While we don’t see Xbox One, it’s almost certain to arrive on the platform if it’s coming to PS4. Insider-Gaming verified the details in the leaked image with “several GameStop employees and developers of the game,” adding that the Xbox Series X|S version is a “cross-generation version.” This means it will also work on the Xbox One and therefore doesn’t need its own SKU, which is why that specific platform version is not listed.

With the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now over 10 years old — the consoles will both be 12 years old by the time Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is released — many were probably wondering about the game’s fate on last-gen systems. But given how many people still own last-gen consoles and how popular the Call of Duty franchise is, it’s not really a surprise that Activision would want to release the game on these older systems as well.

Game Details

Details about the story of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 remain scarce. However, all teasers released thus far hint at the uncovering of a global conspiracy.

In a recent move, Activision initiated viral marketing for the game through a website, www.TheTruthLies.com. The site features an interactive television platform where users can flip through channels to view various videos.

There looks to be space for six total videos, but only four of them are currently available to be viewed. Channel 1, the “LYER Channel Guide” lists all of the video titles along with an extended forecast that teases “Excessive Deceit” and “Scattered Lies.”

The other videos, “Tear Down the Lies” and “The Truth Cometh,” show a mysterious group of people defacing Mount Rushmore and other monuments worldwide with claims that the governments are lying and covering up some sort of secret. There are still two more channels/videos that have yet to be released.

Call of Duty stands as one of the most prominent video game franchises globally, yet its upcoming instalment marks a significant first—it falls under Microsoft’s umbrella. Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard in a monumental deal last year.

Although Microsoft and Xbox likely played a minimal role in Black Ops 6’s development, their involvement could influence its release strategy. While the game will likely remain multiplatform, speculation suggests it could debut as a Game Pass launch title. Such a move would grant free access to Xbox or PC gamers subscribed to the service.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6

As Call of Duty prepares to enter new territory under Microsoft’s stewardship, the gaming community is abuzz with anticipation. With the franchise’s first release under Xbox’s banner looming, the possibilities for its future distribution are wide open.

While Microsoft’s influence on the development process may be limited, its potential impact on release strategies, such as a speculated Game Pass launch for Black Ops 6, could reshape the gaming landscape.
