Earlier today, we reported on the record-breaking first day of ticket sales for Deadpool & Wolverine. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the numbers suggest approximately $8 million to $9 million in presales.
Adding further context, Deadline revealed that the movie has surpassed the 24-hour advance ticket sales of both The Batman ($6.5 million) and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ($6 million). These films eventually grossed $134 million and $118.4 million, respectively, during their 3-day opening weekends.
Given this impressive start, Deadpool & Wolverine is now eyeing a debut of well over $100 million in North America. Whether it will surpass the opening weekend records of Deadpool ($132.4 million) and Deadpool 2 ($125 million) remains to be seen, especially in the current post-pandemic market.
“We come to this movie…I definitely come to this movie…as a fan,” director Shawn Levy recently said of the threequel. “A fan of the X-Men movies and the Deadpool movies. And so, this movie was definitely made with the love of being a fan.”
“Wade Wilson and Logan are built to not get along right from the comic books forward. These are two characters who are really constructed in a way that’s gonna drive the other crazy, especially Logan. He would really, really find Wade a pain in the ass. The relationship and this journey goes places that are unexpected.”
“It’s audacious. There’s sick action, for sure,” the filmmaker added. “The relationship and the way that two-hander evolves will be surprising to people.”
