Upon Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm from George Lucas for an astounding $4 billion, the Star Wars Expanded Universe met its end, later dubbed “Legends.”

The decision wasn’t surprising, considering the challenge of navigating through decades of comics and tie-in novels while crafting a new trilogy and numerous tie-in stories set in the vast Star Wars universe.

Many fans of the franchise were understandably dismayed to witness the sidelining and eventual neglect of beloved characters and narratives from the EU era. However, Disney hasn’t completely disregarded these elements, incorporating them into the new canon from the outset. Grand Admiral Thrawn’s role in Star Wars Rebels serves as a prime example.

Star Wars Hot Toys

As initially reported by SFFGazette.com, merchandise inspired by these stories is gradually emerging. Hot Toys, for instance, has just unveiled a figure of Luke Skywalker based on his portrayal in Star Wars: Dark Empire.

Originally published by Dark Horse Comics from 1991 to 1992, Dark Empire picks up the narrative after the events of Return of the Jedi, following the exploits of Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, Han Solo, and the Rebel Alliance.

Penned by Tom Veitch and brought to life by Cam Kennedy’s illustrations, Dark Empire delves into a galaxy still grappling with the aftermath of the Galactic Empire’s fall. The story introduces a new menace with Emperor Palpatine’s resurrection, as he finds a way to cheat death by transferring his essence into a series of clone bodies.

Hot Toys has unveiled a new Darth Maul figure, coinciding with the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace.

Though a reissue, this iteration boasts significant enhancements. With a remarkably lifelike head sculpt, illuminated USB components featuring Maul’s speeder and lightsaber blades, and overall improvements, this figure is bound to captivate any fan’s collection.
