Giancarlo Esposito, known for his roles in The Boys and The Mandalorian, has officially stepped into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, contrary to expectations, he won’t be portraying the character he campaigned for in recent months. Despite his expressed interest in succeeding Sir Patrick Stewart and James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier, Esposito had reservations about one aspect of the role.

“I’ve given it a cursory glance in my brain, and immediately I go ‘Hmm,’” he said during a recent interview with Fade To Black . “‘[It would] be great to play Professor X in some other incarnation than just the wheelchair. Right? Because the physical idea of being in a wheelchair every single day does not appeal to me. I just don’t feel that old and I don’t like to sit that much. But certainly, we could figure something out maybe. Professor X wasn’t always in the wheelchair but that is part of his character development. So, I think about it a little bit but I don’t give it all of my thought because it would have to come to me.”

Giancarlo Esposito

While some were hesitant about the idea of a Professor X without the wheelchair, rest assured, Giancarlo Esposito will be taking on a different role. At a panel during CCXP via Collider, Esposito teased his involvement in a Marvel Studios project but kept the details under wraps. However, he promised that we’d learn more “sooner rather than later,” emphasizing that the role is “better than you can imagine.”

Speculation is rampant. Could he potentially appear in Deadpool and Wolverine? Given the Merc With a Mouth’s penchant for cameos, it’s entirely plausible that this mysterious character might make a brief appearance to set the stage for future appearances.

With little information to go on, who do you think Esposito would embody best? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
