Moana

Johnson’s portrayal of Maui is set to transcend animation as he gears up for both a voiceover return in Moana 2 and a live-action rendition in Disney’s remake of the beloved tale. However, with Moana 2 taking precedence, the live-action adaptation has faced a significant delay. Originally scheduled for release on June 27, 2025, the premiere date has been pushed back to July 10, 2026. Johnson recently revealed plans for filming to commence later this year, adding to the anticipation surrounding the cinematic journey of Moana’s beloved characters.

The original Moana, released in 2016, showcased Auliʻi Cravalho as the voice of Moana alongside Dwayne Johnson’s portrayal of Maui. The stellar cast also featured Rachel House, Temuera Morrison, Jemaine Clement, Nicole Scherzinger, and Alan Tudyk. Set in ancient Polynesia, the film follows Moana, chosen by the ocean to reunite a goddess with a mystical relic, aided by the demigod Maui. Its global box office success surpassed $687 million and garnered multiple Academy Award nominations, including Best Animated Feature.

Now, fans eagerly anticipate Moana 2, slated for release in theatres on Nov. 27, 2024.
