Earlier this year, news broke that the director of “28 Days Later” (Danny Boyle) and its writer (Alex Garland) would reunite for a series of sequels to the 2002 horror sensation. The initial cast for the first instalment has now been officially unveiled.
Deadline reports that Jodie Comer (known for “Killing Eve” and “Free Guy”), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (renowned for “Kick-Ass” and set to star in “Kraven the Hunter”), and Ralph Fiennes (of the “Harry Potter” and “James Bond” franchises) are set to headline the inaugural film of the planned trilogy.
While Comer and Fiennes had been rumoured to be in discussions, alongside Charlie Hunnam, the absence of the latter in the trade’s report suggests Taylor-Johnson may have secured the male lead.
Cillian Murphy, the star of the original movie, will serve as a producer and has expressed interest in reprising his role as Jim.

“28 Days Later” achieved considerable success and birthed a follow-up in 2007’s “28 Weeks Later,” although Boyle and Garland were only executive producers on that project. Hence, many fans perceive this new movie as the genuine sequel.
Boyle will direct the first instalment, with Nia DaCosta (“The Marvels”) recently announced as the director for the second film, which will be shot back-to-back. Garland will scribe all three, and each movie is purported to have a budget in the $75 million range.
Original 28 Days Movie

In the original film, Murphy portrayed a man who awakens from a coma following a bicycle accident only to discover England overrun by “The Infected,” victims of a virus that transforms them into aggressive killers capable of alarming speed. Setting out to unravel the chaos, he encounters fellow survivors portrayed by Naomie Harris and Brendan Gleeson, as well as a disturbed army major portrayed by Christopher Eccleston.
While plot specifics for “28 Years Later” remain undisclosed, the timeframe indicates a near-future setting, suggesting the film may veer more towards sci-fi than pure horror.
