This Friday, Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog spin-off series, Knuckles, debuts on the Paramount+ streaming service, and the initial reviews have zoomed onto the web.
Initially soaring with an impressive 88% on Rotten Tomatoes, Knuckles took an unexpected turn as more verdicts rolled in, now settling at a still commendable 70%.
Introduced in the Sonic the Hedgehog sequel, the fiery echidna first clashed with Sonic and Tails before switching sides and teaming up with the speedy duo against Dr. Robotnik.
In the gaming world, Knuckles initially appeared as a foe in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 but later allied with Sonic and Tails upon uncovering Dr. Eggman’s schemes.
This series bridges the gap between Sonic 2 and the forthcoming threequel, focusing on Knuckles as he mentors deputy sheriff Wade Whipple in the ways of the Echidna warrior while evading the grasp of one of Robotnik’s former allies seeking to exploit his powers.
Alongside this news, two fresh clips from the series have emerged. The first features Maddie urging Sonic and Tails to counsel Knuckles on his rowdy behaviour, while the second depicts the echidna facing exile to the “floor of shame” after following Sonic’s advice.
“Knuckles” promises a rollicking journey of self-discovery as the red-quilled bruiser takes on the task of mentoring Wade in the ways of the Echidna warrior, offering audiences a blend of humor and action.
Idris Elba will reprise his role as Knuckles, leading a star-studded cast featuring Adam Pally as Wade Whipple, Ben Schwartz as Sonic the Hedgehog, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails. Joining them are guest stars including Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, and more.
Toby Ascher and John Whittington spearhead the creation of Knuckles’ small-screen adventure, with Jeff Fowler directing the pilot episode and Whittington as head writer. Brian Schacter and James Madejski round out the writing team.
Catch all six episodes of “Knuckles” exclusively on Paramount+ starting April 26 in the U.S. and Canada, and April 27 in other territories, with a later release in Japan.
