Godzilla vs. Kong: The New Empire has soared to $485.2 million globally, bolstered by a $9.5 million boost from North American cinemas and an impressive $21.6 million from overseas theatres. With just a little more to go, the film seems poised to smash the $500 million global milestone next week.

Having already claimed the title of the second highest-grossing film of the year (so far), surpassing Kung-Fu Panda 4, Godzilla vs. Kong now sets its sights on the monstrous success of Dune: Part Two, which dominates the box office with $695.8 million worldwide. However, Dune’s reign at the top may be short-lived, with Deadpool & Wolverine slated to storm theaters on July 26.

As Godzilla vs. Kong continues its theatrical run, it’s on track to surpass the $500 million milestone, a promising sign for its sequel prospects, especially considering its relatively modest production budget within the MonsterVerse franchise.

To secure its place as the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film to date, Godzilla vs. Kong must surpass the earnings of Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island (2017). Do you think it has what it takes? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
