Marvel Studios dropped a fresh trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine today, sparking a whirlwind of speculation among fans. While the trailer didn’t spill all the beans (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing), it certainly served up enough fodder for discussion.

One standout moment has everyone talking: the eerie sight of a deceased Scott Lang, aka Giant-Man, with his mask peeled back to reveal his skull repurposed as the lair for the nefarious Cassandra Nova.

Interestingly, this grim tableau bears a striking resemblance to a scene from the 2016 Marvel Comics series Old Man Logan, where the skeletal remains of Giant-Man (albeit Hank Pym in that rendition) make a cameo. Could this be a hint that the movie is dipping its toes into the Old Man Logan universe? Writer Mark Millar certainly seems to think so, sparking further anticipation among eager fans.

Ant Man Skeleton (Old Man Logan Comic)

While the Giant-Man skeleton nod may hint at a deeper comic book connection, it doesn’t guarantee a slew of similar references. However, given the creative team’s penchant for throwing everything but the kitchen sink into Wade Wilson’s MCU introduction, it wouldn’t be surprising to see more nods down the line. Could an older, blind Hawkeye make an appearance? The possibilities are tantalizing.

In a serendipitous twist, the trailer features Madonna’s iconic hit “Like A Prayer,” released on this very day in 1989. Ryan Reynolds insists to “Marvel Jesus” that this synchronicity is purely coincidental, but fans can’t help but wonder if there’s a deeper meaning behind the musical choice.

As the hype train for Deadpool and Wolverine continues to gather steam, fans are left eagerly speculating about what other surprises the film might have in store. Will it delve further into the rich tapestry of comic book lore, or blaze its own trail through the MCU? Only time will tell.

In the meantime, we want to hear from you! What are your thoughts on the Giant-Man nod and the potential for more comic book references in the movie?
