News about the live-action Snow White remake has been scarce since Disney unveiled the first official image of Rachel Zegler (known for Shazam! Fury of the Gods and Westside Story) portraying the iconic princess alongside her seven CGI companions. However, fresh (albeit rumoured) plot details are surfacing online.
Confusion arose when set photos featuring a group of average-sized actors dressed in costume made their way online late last year, sparking speculation about the fate of the classic Seven Dwarfs.
Insider Daniel Richtman sheds light on the matter, suggesting that these individuals will form a bandit team assembled by Andrew Burnap’s character, Jonathan, who replaces the traditional Prince. Fear not, Snow White will still have her seven loyal allies, although they may not be referred to as Dwarfs.
Richtman’s insights extend further, hinting at a more independent portrayal of Snow White leading a rebellion against the Evil Witch. Additionally, there’s talk of a fresh twist on the poisoned apple scenario, although details remain elusive.
Regarding the film’s quality, opinions are divided. While Richtman’s sources indicate positive test-screening feedback, other reports suggest a less rosy outlook.
Zegler had the following to say about the official still shortly after it was released online.
“This is an iconic thing that people really care about. I don’t want to mess this up for anybody, including myself. The writers and Marc Webb and our entire producing team. It’s a bit different story wise. We were able to do ‘Whistle While You Work,’ which made me really happy and excited. I was really nervous more about the technical element. That first-look image went out… and there’s a lot of CGI in the film.”
“Most of that day was spent singing to nothing,” Zegler went on. “I’m sure you also know how that can be. There was a lot of puppetry and CGI in post. It was really intense. There’s a lot of bloopers of me tossing a broom and letting it fall to the ground because that’s apparently how you toss things off to CGI characters. But it’s so much fun!”
Helmed by The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb, the upcoming Snow White adaptation is set to delve deeper into the beloved story from the 1937 animated classic. With fresh narrative twists, the film promises to captivate audiences anew.
Adding to the anticipation are new songs penned by acclaimed songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, renowned for their work on hits like La La Land and The Greatest Showman. Joining the ensemble is none other than Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot, set to bring her charisma to the role of the malevolent Evil Queen.

While the full cast of the seven “dwarfs” remains under wraps, one notable inclusion is Martin Klebba, famed for his appearances in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, who will portray the cantankerous Grumpy. Additionally, the movie will explore a younger iteration of Snow White, hinting at flashback sequences that will enrich the character’s origin story.
Mark your calendars for next March when Snow White enchants audiences in theatres, promising a spellbinding cinematic experience.
