Harrison Ford Takes Over General Ross Role in “Captain America: Brave New World” Following William Hurt’s Passing
In the wake of William Hurt’s passing, Harrison Ford steps into the shoes of General “Thunderbolt” Ross in the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Recent revelations suggest that Ross, now U.S. President, plays a pivotal role, as footage from CinemaCon hints at his involvement in assembling a new team of Avengers under Sam Wilson’s leadership.

Furthermore, it’s no secret that Ross undergoes a significant transformation into the Red Hulk. Initial set photos depicted Ford in torn pants, and rumors swirl about a showdown between the new Captain America and the villain on the White House lawn.
Newly unveiled McDonald’s Happy Meal toys offer a sneak peek at characters from “Captain America: Brave New World,” including the Red Hulk. True to expectations, the character lacks a mustache, resembling the iconic Red Hulk persona.
Additionally, glimpses of the new Falcon, Sabra, and Diamondback are revealed. However, speculation arises regarding Diamondback’s role, as it’s suggested that the character may have been cut from the film, reminiscent of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Rintrah, who despite heavy merchandise presence, had minimal screen time.
While this initial glimpse of Red Hulk may not provide the intricate details seen in promotional artwork, fans are ecstatic to finally witness the villain in all his fiery glory!
Speculation is rife among fans that Ford’s return as Ross could lead to involvement in “Thunderbolts.” Regardless, Ford’s role is expected to be pivotal in the overarching Multiverse Saga. Amidst the spotlight on Kang the Conqueror’s dimension-hopping escapades, Marvel Studios continues to delve into grounded narratives that enrich the Earth-616 landscape.
Pending any alterations in the upcoming reshoots, “Captain America: Brave New World” boasts a stellar cast including Anthony Mackie, Harrison Ford, Danny Ramirez, Carl Lumbly, Tim Blake Nelson, Shira Haas, Liv Tyler, and WWE Superstar Seth Rollins.
Directed by Julius Onah from a screenplay by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson, the film has seen additional input from Onah and writer Matthew Orton for reshoots scheduled later this year.
“Captain America: Brave New World” is slated for release in theatres on February 14, 2025.
