Following the recent announcement of Pruitt Taylor Vince as Jonathan Kent, James Gunn has now finalized the casting for Martha Kent in his upcoming Superman film. Neva Howell, known for her roles in Fever Dreams and Logan Lucky, will join the cast as Ma Kent.

Set to hit theatres in July 2025, Superman promises to deliver a fresh take on the iconic DC character. Alongside Pruitt Taylor Vince’s Pa Kent, Neva Howell’s portrayal of Martha Kent is sure to add depth and emotion to the story.

Martha Kent, the beloved adoptive mother of Clark Kent, has been brought to life by several talented actors across both the big and small screens. In film, her character has been portrayed by Phyllis Thaxter in the iconic 1978 film Superman: The Movie, Eva Marie Saint in 2006’s Superman Returns, and Diane Lane in 2013’s Man of Steel. Notably, Martha Kent’s name served as a pivotal connection between the titular superheroes in the Man of Steel sequel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

On television, a diverse array of actresses have embodied the role of Ma Kent, including Frances Morris in Adventures of Superman, Salome Jens in Superboy, K Callan in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Annette O’Toole in Smallville, Sarah Deakins in Titans, and Michele Scarabelli in Superman & Lois.

Furthermore, Martha Kent has been a recurring character in animated adaptations, with Kari Wahlgren providing her voice most recently in My Adventures with Superman.

Across mediums, Martha Kent remains a symbol of maternal strength and guidance in the life of the Man of Steel, leaving an indelible mark on Superman’s journey.

Superman Will Be the DCU’s First Movie

The DC Universe (DCU) is undergoing a thrilling transformation under the guidance of DC Studios’ James Gunn and Peter Safran. Superman, set to soar onto screens on July 11, 2025, will mark the debut feature film in this fresh timeline. This cinematic universe promises a cohesive narrative that extends beyond the Man of Steel, with projects including Swamp Thing, Batman, and Supergirl.

But the journey into this new DCU begins even earlier with Creature Commandos, an animated series slated for release on Max later in 2024. Despite its animated format, Creature Commandos is firmly rooted in the DCU, potentially laying the groundwork for events or themes that could reverberate in Superman and subsequent projects.

As anticipation builds for the dawn of this exciting era, fans can prepare for a thrilling ride through the interconnected realms of superheroes and villains in the DCU.
