Following its exclusive debut at CinemaCon last week, Warner Bros. has unleashed the much-anticipated first trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s latest thriller, “Trap.” Starring Josh Hartnett, renowned for his roles in “Sin City” and “Halloween H20,” the film promises a gripping narrative of cat-and-mouse.

While the initial synopsis offers a mere glimpse into the plot—hinting at a father-daughter duo encountering a sinister turn of events at a pop concert—the trailer tantalizingly reveals more. Amidst a sea of concertgoers, Hartnett’s character, a seemingly ordinary man, stumbles upon a chilling reality: he’s in the midst of a police hunt for none other than the notorious serial killer dubbed “The Butcher.”

In a bold narrative move, the teaser hints at a startling revelation: Hartnett’s character may not be as innocent as he appears. As he investigates the unfolding chaos, glimpses of a captive man in his home hint at a sinister secret lurking beneath the surface.

However, the unveiling of this twist so early in the marketing campaign raises eyebrows. Shyamalan, known for his penchant for suspense and unexpected plot twists, offers insight into his decision-making process. “When I thought of the idea, I was like, Why? You can’t hide it. It happens so early,” the filmmaker reveals in an interview with The Wrap. “This is the fun of the movie. It’s being in that point-of-view.”

Moreover, Shyamalan sheds light on the film’s thematic inspiration, citing the music industry as a key influence. As anticipation mounts for “Trap,” audiences are primed for a psychological rollercoaster that promises to blur the lines between reality and deception.

“We were talking about the form of music, and what tried to happen with the movie industry, which was, hey, just release everything ubiquitously everywhere and everyone can watch it whenever they want. That’s the future right? I said, ‘That’s not the [frick]ing future. That’s not the way we’re doing this.’ And I tried hard not to do and help everybody and say, ‘Don’t do that.’ But the music industry went that way, and I was like, ‘In what field do you do your work, and then give it away for free? What world is that?’”
