Earlier tonight at Disney/Marvel Studios’ CinemaCon presentation, select scenes from Captain America: Brave New World (formerly known as New World Order) were unveiled to attendees. While the footage remains exclusive to the event and isn’t expected to be released online, Entertainment Weekly has provided the first official promotional images.
The images showcase Anthony Mackie reprising his role as Sam Wilson, now wielding Steve Rogers’ iconic vibranium shield. Alongside, we catch a glimpse of our new Sentinel of Liberty meeting General Thadeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, portrayed by Harrison Ford. Ross tasks Wilson with a monumental mission: the reformation of The Avengers.
In the showcased footage, Ross extends a warm welcome to Wilson at the White House, praising his past heroics. However, the atmosphere quickly shifts as chaos erupts with the activation of sleeper agent assassins by mysterious music. Among them is Carl Lumbly’s Isaiah Bradley, adding to the intensity as they attempt to eliminate the President.
“It made more sense for it to be more of a grounded espionage action movie as opposed to aliens and airplanes coming through portals and sh*t,” Mackie tells EW. “Even though I’ve been in so many of them and have seen it all now, the opportunity for Sam to really establish himself as a true action star and Avenger comes with this movie.”
“This movie is a clear reset,” he adds. It really re-establishes the idea of what this universe is and what this universe is going to be. I think with these movies, you’re getting a clear, new branding of what Marvel is headed towards the same way they did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier.”
Exciting updates emerge for Captain America: Brave New World as additional photography extends into May or June, with Marvel tapping Moon Knight writer Matthew Orton to pen new scenes. While reshoots are commonplace, this prolonged period has stirred speculation of significant story alterations.
Joining Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are Danny Ramirez as the new Falcon, Shira Haas as Israeli superheroine Sabra, Liv Tyler as Betty Ross, and Tim Blake Nelson as The Leader.
Plot details remain shrouded in secrecy, but whispers suggest Samuel Sterns will emerge as the “secret benefactor” behind the Serpent Society. What role he’ll play in funding the group and their tech remains uncertain.
Mark your calendars: Captain America: Brave New World hits theatres on February 14, 2025.”
