Todd Phillips’ Joker: Folie à Deux unveils its first official trailer, teasing a thrilling new adventure starring Academy Award winners Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga as Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn. The film promises an electrifying musical journey that will captivate audiences and leave them breathless.
Phillips, speaking at CinemaCon, hinted at the film’s musical elements without categorizing it as a musical outright. “Music is an essential element. It doesn’t veer too far from the first film. We use music to make us whole, to balance the fractures in ourselves.”
Joining Phoenix and Gaga are Primetime Emmy-nominee Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie Dumond, alongside a stellar supporting cast including Academy Award-nominee Brendan Gleeson, 2x Academy Award-nominee Catherine Keener, and others.
Unlike its predecessor, the sequel boasts a substantially higher production budget of around $200 million, reflecting the studio’s confidence in its potential to surpass the box office success of the original, which grossed over $1.079 billion globally.
Notably, Joker: Folie à Deux will diverge from the main DC Universe, existing as an “Elseworlds” project alongside Matt Reeves’ The Batman series, as confirmed by DC Studios head James Gunn.
Joker: Folie à Deux hits theaters on October 4, 2024.
