PlayStation 5 Pro Specs Leak Online: Enhanced CPU and GPU Details Revealed
Rumored specifications for the yet-to-be-announced PlayStation 5 Pro have surfaced online, shedding light on the anticipated powerhouse console slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2024 by Sony.
Initially brought to attention through Moore’s Law Is Dead YouTube channel, the authenticity of the leaked specs gained further credibility when Insider Gaming corroborated their legitimacy. Subsequently, an Insider Gaming article delved into more specifics. IGN has independently verified these leaked specifications, which purportedly originated from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Developer Network. Sony, however, remains silent on the matter.
Of notable improvements are the enhancements to the CPU, reportedly identical to the standard PS5’s but featuring a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’ for a 10% boost up to 3.85GHz, and the GPU, promising expedited rendering and superior ray tracing capabilities boasting a staggering 33.5 teraflops, dwarfing the standard PS5’s 10.28 teraflops. A comparison between the PS5 and its purported Pro version suggests a significant leap in performance, estimated at approximately 10.28 vs 16 to 17 teraflops.

Recent leaks suggest that the upcoming PS5 Pro will introduce groundbreaking features such as PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling), a custom machine learning architecture, and an AI accelerator. Additionally, the PS5 Pro is rumored to come with a detachable disc drive and a capacious 1TB storage capacity.
Analysts have hinted at a potential release of the PS5 Pro later in 2024, signaling Sony’s strategy to revitalize interest in the PS5 lineup ahead of the highly anticipated launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in 2025. The success of GTA 6 holds immense significance not only for Rockstar and Take-Two but also for Sony’s gaming ecosystem.
Sony’s track record includes releasing enhanced versions of its consoles, with the PS4 Pro being a prime example, debuting three years after the initial PS4 launch. If the speculated November release for the PS5 Pro holds true, it would mark four years since the PS5’s launch in November 2020.

Sony has revised its PS5 sales forecast for the current financial year, down from its lofty target of 25 million consoles sold to 21 million. This comes despite a year-on-year increase in PS5 sales for the holiday 2023 quarter, from 7.1 million sold to 8.2 million.
Elsewhere, Sony has said it will not release any major existing PlayStation franchise games before April 2025, ruling out big sequels in the God of War and Spider-Man franchises any time soon.
Last month, Sony announced a devastating wave of layoffs affecting over 900 staff at its gaming business. Sony’s London studio is to close.
