Amidst battles against the relentless Terminids and Automatons in Helldivers 2, a faction known as the Illuminate is believed by some players to be making its ominous approach.
Veterans of the first Helldivers game are well-acquainted with the Illuminate, an ancient and highly advanced alien race bent on obliterating Super Earth. Now, with Helldivers 2 having been out for over a month, reports have emerged of peculiar blue lasers inflicting damage upon players.
One Redditor, Dye335, recounted a harrowing encounter with a vibrant blue laser that significantly reduced their health. “It must have been an Illuminate Sniper, just like in the first game,” they remarked. The absence of evidence beyond player testimony has left many wishing they had captured the incident on video. However, several players have since shared footage corroborating these encounters.
The potential emergence of the Illuminate doesn’t come entirely out of left field, as leaked faction models have circulated among the community. Furthermore, an in-game news broadcast aboard players’ ships has hinted at “rumours of Illuminate sightings,” further fuelling speculation of an imminent threat.
Johan Pilestedt, CEO of Arrowhead, took to Twitter in classic in-universe style to dismiss rumors surrounding the alleged appearance of blue beams in Helldivers 2. With a tongue-in-cheek tone, Pilestedt quipped, “Blue beams aren’t real, it can’t hurt you.” However, skepticism lingers, echoing the sentiment: “Well, Super Earth would say that, wouldn’t it?”
Meanwhile, Helldivers 2’s recent premium Warbond release revolves around an arc theme, introducing a plethora of arc-themed weapons and Armor boasting arc resistance. Speculation among players has surged, with many pondering whether this specialized gear is a strategic preparation for the eventual encounter with the Illuminate, should they emerge en masse.
As the debate over the existence of the mysterious blue beams rages on and speculation regarding the Illuminate’s imminent arrival mounts, the Helldivers 2 community finds itself teetering on the brink of anticipation. Arrowhead’s CEO may dismiss the notion, but with Super Earth’s track record, can we truly afford to let our guard down?
