In her first public statement since initiating legal action against Disney, Gina Carano breaks her silence on the circumstances surrounding her departure from The Mandalorian. Known for her portrayal of Cara Dune, Din Djarin’s steadfast ally in the initial two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars saga, Carano was ousted by Lucasfilm in 2021 following what the company labelled as a string of “abhorrent” social media comments.
“Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future,” said Lucasfilm’s statement at the time. “Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Prior to her dismissal, Gina Carano’s social media activity had been a subject of ongoing controversy. However, likening being a Republican today to the experience of being Jewish during the Holocaust marked a critical turning point for Disney. Despite multiple opportunities provided to delete the contentious posts and offer an apology, Carano opted against doing so.
Now, in an extensive piece by THR, Carano delves into the intricacies of the situation, providing a more comprehensive perspective on her stance.
“I just laid down and cried and cried,” Carano recalls. “I curled into a fetal position. It’s not that I didn’t think that something like that could happen. It was that I couldn’t imagine they would put out this horrendous statement about me after working with me — the most powerful entertainment company in the world saying that about me.”
Ironically, despite the uproar caused by Gina Carano’s controversial posts, she asserts that her decision to add the words “Boop/bop/beep” to her social media profiles had the most significant repercussions. This action followed a request for her to express support for transgender rights by listing her pronouns. According to Carano, it was this seemingly innocuous move that ultimately led to her dismissal from the series.

“Boop/bop/beep?” she asked incredulously when thinking back to the incident. “Seriously? This was the start of the end for me? A 20-year career, the blood, sweat and tears of fighting? I never compromised myself for a job. I never ended in a bad situation where I did anything inappropriate. I had a clean and clear climb to where I got to and was going to just keep going. And boop/bop/beep was that harmful?”
Carano maintains that she stands by her actions, expressing no regrets. Currently embroiled in a legal battle, she is suing Disney and Lucasfilm for alleged discrimination and wrongful termination. Her objective is to seek reinstatement to her role as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian.
“You won’t find a perfect person in me, but you will find a person who was doing her absolute best under one of the most aggressive unnecessary cancellations in Hollywood history,” she concludes. “This has been one of the toughest growth spurts of my life and I don’t plan on wasting what I have learned.”
