Studio executives have already met with Johansson to discuss the forthcoming movie.

Marvel’s influence continues to shape the Jurassic World franchise as another star from the universe might be making their mark.

As reported by The Insneider, Scarlett Johansson is rumoured to take the helm in Jurassic World 4, stepping into the spotlight previously held by Chris Pratt across the trilogy. Sources suggest that the MCU veteran has already engaged in discussions with director Gareth Edwards and Jurassic Park producer Frank Marshall. Yet, while Universal Pictures has extended the offer, Johansson’s response remains undisclosed.

Plot specifics for the forthcoming Jurassic World chapter are shrouded in secrecy, but whispers suggest it could bear the title Jurassic City. David Koepp, the mastermind behind Jurassic Park’s original screenplay, is crafting the narrative. Joining the creative fray, Steven Spielberg has committed as an executive producer under Amblin Entertainment alongside Marshall.

In what promises to be a franchise reboot, none of the beloved characters from prior instalments are anticipated to make a return, signalling a fresh start for the prehistoric saga.

The Jurassic Park franchise has experienced a spectrum of success

Jurassic Park Franchise Box Office

While the Jurassic World films haven’t achieved the same critical acclaim as Spielberg’s iconic 1993 original, they’ve undeniably soared at the box office. Each instalment – Jurassic World, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Jurassic World: Dominion – has crossed the billion-dollar mark worldwide. However, Dominion has been a divisive entry, earning a mere 29% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes and garnering three Golden Raspberry Award nominations.

Inspired by Michael Crichton’s 1990 novel, the Jurassic Park franchise was catapulted to fame with Spielberg’s visionary direction. The series revolves around the resurrection of dinosaurs through cloning technology, set against the backdrop of theme parks and remote islands.

Jurassic Park

The inaugural installment follows a group of scientists and two children who receive an invitation to preview a groundbreaking theme park populated by dinosaurs. When the park’s security systems falter, chaos ensues as the prehistoric creatures break free, and the humans find themselves in a battle for survival. Following the monumental success of the original Jurassic Park film, the franchise expanded with The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997) and Jurassic Park III (2001).

In 2015, the franchise was reinvigorated with Jurassic World, helmed by director Colin Trevorrow. Set years after the events of the original trilogy, the narrative unveils a fully operational dinosaur theme park on Isla Nublar. However, when a genetically engineered dinosaur escapes, the park plunges into turmoil. This revival was followed by two sequels, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018) and Jurassic World: Dominion (2022).

Anticipation mounts as Jurassic World 4 is slated to hit theatres worldwide on July 2, 2025.
