An update on Daredevil: Born Again reveals casting details for four transgender characters still to be filled.
Reportedly, Marvel Studios, per Daniel Richtman, is actively seeking actors for these significant roles in at least one episode of the Disney+ series.
While the Marvel Comics Universe boasts notable transgender characters, it’s unlikely these four will be established heroes or villains. Speculation suggests they may feature in one of Matt Murdock’s cases.
In other news, Charlie Cox addressed the return of Deborah Ann Woll and Elden Henson as Karen Page and Foggy Nelson during an appearance at Awesome Con. Cox confirmed their comeback, attributing the decision to the series’ post-strike creative overhaul earlier this year.
“When we came back to filming and they had made some changes, it was clear that Foggy and Karen are kind of the heartbeat of our show. They always were. So [it feels] really special to have them back.”
The Punisher writer Dario Scardapane is reportedly the new showrunner for the project, though no official announcement has been made.
While specific plot details remain undisclosed, Daredevil: Born Again will pit Matt Murdock/Daredevil against his longtime foe, the Kingpin (played by Vincent D’Onofrio), who was last seen returning to New York in the season finale of Echo. It’s speculated that Fisk will either be campaigning for mayor of NYC or already in office when the story unfolds.
Jon Bernthal is set to reprise his role as Frank Castle/The Punisher.
Contrary to the initially announced 18 episodes, the show is expected to have a shorter run. A recent rumor suggests it will air around 9 episodes (possibly 6) before a mid-season break.
While the Disney+ series lacks an official release date, it remains on Disney’s updated 2024 schedule.
