Assassin’s Creed Red Rumoured to Be the First Series Entry with Ray Tracing

Amidst the ongoing radio silence from Ubisoft, unofficial details about Assassin’s Creed Red have emerged online, courtesy of Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson. The focus of the latest report centres on the game’s rumoured engine change, with sources close to the project suggesting that Red will utilize an updated version of Ubisoft’s internal Anvil engine, dubbed Anvil Pipeline. Among its features, the new engine is rumoured to introduce full-fledged ray tracing support, marking a significant milestone for the Assassin’s Creed series.

Parkour System Overhaul Is Also on the Cards for AC Red

In a bid to streamline the development process for future entries in the franchise, Ubisoft has opted to switch engines for Assassin’s Creed Red. Previously, the company’s various studios working on Assassin’s Creed titles each utilized their own versions of the Anvil engine. While this move towards standardization could potentially reduce development timelines, it also necessitates revisiting foundational elements that have remained unchanged for some time. According to Henderson’s report, Assassin’s Creed Red will embark on a comprehensive overhaul of animations and core systems, including parkour and dynamic weather.

On the combat front, Assassin’s Creed Red is said to draw inspiration from Valhalla, featuring intense gore and decapitations akin to its predecessor. Enemy dismemberment, absent in Mirage but prevalent in Valhalla, is expected to make a return. Regarding stealth mechanics, Henderson highlights features such as torch extinguishing, hiding in foliage, and the ability to go prone, mirroring a late 2023 leak that hinted at Assassin’s Creed Red incorporating elements from Sekiro, including a grappling hook.
