At the 2024 Academy Awards ceremony, the winner of the Best Actor Oscar was announced.

At the Academy Awards, the highly anticipated winner for Best Actor has been unveiled, confirming many pre-event predictions. Cillian Murphy emerged victorious as anticipated, fulfilling expectations set by industry forecasts. Adding to the excitement, a star-studded lineup of previous winners including Nicolas Cage, Brendan Fraser, Ben Kingsley, Matthew McConaughey, and Forest Whitaker graced the stage to present the coveted award.

Cillian Murphy’s victory at the Oscars was widely expected, given his outstanding performance in “Oppenheimer” and his previous accolades for the role. However, as the saying goes, nothing is certain at the Oscars, and the competition was fierce. Murphy faced formidable contenders in the Best Actor category, including Bradley Cooper for his portrayal of Leonard Bernstein in “Maestro,” Colman Domingo as Bayard Rustin in “Rustin,” Paul Giamatti as Paul Hunham in “The Holdovers,” and Jeffrey Wright as Thelonious “Monk” Ellison.

This marked Murphy’s debut nomination and win at the Oscars, adding another milestone to his illustrious career. His remarkable portrayal in “Oppenheimer” has also earned him prestigious awards such as the BAFTA Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe Award. With this string of triumphs, Murphy was widely considered the frontrunner for the Oscar win, solidifying his status as one of the industry’s most celebrated talents.

Oppenheimer Had the Most Oscar Nominations

“Oppenheimer” emerged as the frontrunner at the Oscars with a staggering 13 nominations, making it the film with the most nods overall. Its impressive lineup of nominations spanned across various categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, and acting nods for Robert Downey Jr. and Emily Blunt in the supporting categories. Additionally, the film secured nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Score, Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Costume Design, and Best Film Editing.

Reflecting on the unexpected success of “Oppenheimer” and his own Oscar nomination, Cillian Murphy expressed gratitude and astonishment. “None of us expected that the film would do so well,” he remarked to the Irish Star. “The thing that always strikes me is when people come and say they’ve seen the film five or six times, that’s kind of phenomenal and young and old and boys and girls, it’s amazing.”

When asked about his prospects of winning the Oscar, Murphy remained humble and focused on enjoying the experience. “I haven’t really thought about it to be honest, I just want to go in and have a good time. I’m sure we’ll have a party of some sort.”

For those eager to delve into the acclaimed narrative of “Oppenheimer,” the film is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
