Thomas Haden Church Shares Insight on Sam Raimi’s Rumoured Sequel Spider-Man 4.
Thomas Haden Church, known for his role as Sandman in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, is sparking excitement among fans with the prospect of Spider-Man 4 becoming a reality.

Initially cast by Raimi for Spider-Man 3 in 2007, Church’s portrayal of the iconic villain, Sandman, left a lasting impression. Despite plans for a fourth installment falling through and subsequent reboots of the franchise, Church reprised his role in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, alongside all three live-action Peter Parker actors.
Now, rumours are swirling that Raimi could return to direct Spider-Man 4, potentially bringing Tobey Maguire back to don the Spidey suit once more. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Church shares insights into these speculations while expressing his own eagerness to join the cast for the anticipated sequel.
“Sandman… there’s been some rumors that they might ask me to do another Spider-Man, and I’d do it tomorrow,” Church said. “You know, they never asked me to show up in another movie, another Marvel film, but I think Sam [Raimi] is going to do another Spider-Man with Tobey [Maguire]. That’s the one that — I was actually, they had an option for me to do Spider-Man 4, when there was going to be a Spider-Man 4. They had an option on me to come back. So, if it happens, that would be fantastic. I’m just getting a little old.”
Will Spider-Man 4 Ever Get the Greenlight?

While an official announcement regarding a sequel to Spider-Man 3 with Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire has not been made, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has hinted at the possibility. In a 2023 interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige mentioned the existence of writers with ‘big ideas’ for the future of Spider-Man, following the overwhelming success of No Way Home. The film’s triumph was fueled in part by fans’ nostalgia for previous iterations of the iconic superhero.
“All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now,” Feige said.
Tobey Maguire reprises his role as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3, where he navigates his relationship with Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst) amidst new challenges. Thomas Haden Church joins the cast as Flint Marko, the true killer of Uncle Ben who transforms into the formidable Sandman.
Adding to the chaos, Peter must also contend with his friend Harry’s transformation into the Green Goblin (James Franco) and the emergence of rival photographer Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) as the menacing Venom.
