But this time, it’s Ishana Night Shyamalan stepping into the director’s chair for her big screen debut, aiming to carve her own path in the world of filmmaking.
Having previously directed episodes of Apple TV+’s ‘Servant,’ where her father served as showrunner, Ishana brings her unique vision to ‘The Watchers.’
Starring Dakota Fanning (‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,’ ‘Ocean’s Eight’), Georgina Campbell (‘Barbarian,’ ‘Suspicion’), Oliver Finnegan (‘Creeped Out,’ ‘Outlander’), and Olwen Fouere (‘The Northman,’ ‘The Tourist’), the film boasts a stellar cast. Produced by M. Night Shyamalan, Ashwin Rajan, and Nimitt Mankad, with Jo Homewood and Stephen Dembitzer as executive producers.

Nepotism talk surrounding Ishana Night Shyamalan’s directorial debut ‘The Watchers’ was addressed head-on in a candid January 2023 interview. Ishana, reflecting on her Indian heritage, acknowledged the drive instilled by her upbringing, stating, ‘…when people make assumptions it just kind of fuels me a bit more to work harder than the person next to me.’
Addressing the inevitable comparisons to her father’s work, Ishana emphasized the unique perspectives she brings to her projects, particularly as a woman in the industry. She remarked, ‘My life experience is very different than his…there are sort of inevitably different textures compared to the work I do.’
Behind the camera, Ishana is joined by a talented team including director of photography Eli Arenson, production designer Ferdia Murphy, editor Job ter Burg, and costume designer Frank Gallacher. The atmospheric score is composed by Abel Korzeniowski.
Mark your calendars! ‘The Watchers’ is slated for international release on June 5, 2024, followed by its North American debut on June 7, 2024.
