Insider Daniel Richtman reports that Marvel will be focusing on more grounded series for Disney+ including one for a Daredevil: Born Again character.

Insider Daniel Richtman recently revealed on X that Marvel is currently prioritizing animated projects and live-action movies over the development of new live-action shows. Richtman suggests that the next wave of live-action shows from Marvel will adopt a more grounded approach.

In a separate update on his Patreon (via X), Richtman shared exciting news about a female-led White Tiger show in development at Marvel Studios. While the character’s Marvel Cinematic Universe debut is set to occur in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, reports indicate that the masked hero will be portrayed by Hector Ayala instead of one of the female iterations.

Although Marvel Studios has yet to confirm White Tiger’s involvement in Born Again, leaked set photos/footage have surfaced featuring an undisclosed actor donning the superhero costume.

In the comics, various women have donned the White Tiger mantle, including a white Bengal tigress transformed into a human by the High Evolutionary. However, Ava Ayala emerges as the frontrunner due to her familial ties to Hector and her connection to the Man Without Fear.

Recent set footage (See below) hints at a short-lived tenure for Hector in the series, leaving the door open for his niece, Ava, to seek vengeance. (In her standalone show), Ava’s appearance in Born Again remains uncertain.

Marvel Cost Cutting with Grounded Shows

Marvel Studios’ recent decision to prioritize grounded heroes for its Disney+ productions appears to be driven by budget considerations. Unlike superheroes that rely heavily on expensive special effects, these characters are more cost-effective to bring to life on screen.

According to available information, Marvel’s recent five-episode miniseries, Echo, featuring street-level antihero Maya Lopez, was produced with a budget of only $40 million. This is significantly lower compared to some of the MCU’s other recent series, such as She-Hulk: Attorney at Law ($212 million) and Secret Invasion ($225 million).

With Echo’s budget coming in at less than 20 percent of these larger-scale productions, it stands as the cheapest live-action MCU series yet for Marvel Studios. This strategic shift in focus underscores Marvel’s commitment to exploring diverse storytelling avenues while managing production costs effectively.

Who is White Tiger?

White Tiger, created in 1975 by writer Bill Mantlo and artist George Pérez, is a significant legacy hero in Marvel’s roster, utilizing the power of a supernatural amulet to combat crime and injustice.

White Tiger Marvel Character

The character’s origins trace back to Puerto Rican native Hector Ayala, making him Marvel’s pioneering Hispanic superhero. Over the years, the White Tiger mantle has been passed on to various successors, including Hector’s niece, Angela del Toro, and his sister, Ava Ayala, as well as NYPD officer Kasper Cole.

While Ava Ayala has been the only officially adapted version of White Tiger outside the comics, appearing in the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, actor Jon Huertas (known for This Is Us) took on the role of Hector Ayala in a fan-produced short film back in 2016.

As Marvel continues to expand its cinematic universe, fans eagerly anticipate further explorations of White Tiger’s rich legacy and diverse roster of characters. Stay tuned for more updates on potential adaptations and appearances of this iconic hero!
