AMC celebrates Valentine’s Day with a romantic new trailer for The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, receiving positive reviews.
AMC’s upcoming The Walking Dead spin-off, The Ones Who Live, is gearing up for its premiere later this month, and in celebration of Valentine’s Day, the network has unveiled a brand new trailer.
Why choose Valentine’s Day for a release in the midst of a gory survival horror series? According to star Andrew Lincoln, who reprises his role as Rick Grimes, the 6-episode miniseries will delve deeper into a central love story, diverging from the usual perils of survival in a zombie-infested world.

“We were trying to find the essence of the story we wanted to tell,” Lincoln explains to EW. “Then it was Dania and Scott that really convinced me. They suggested, ‘Why don’t we just tell a love story? Why don’t we see if we can reconnect these two lovers from these different time zones and tell a bigger story about what the grown-ups have been doing while we’ve been scrambling around in the main series, and shade in a bit of that?’”
“And I thought, ‘Okay, let’s do it. Let’s tell a love story.’ Can their love survive the time and distance apart? That’s the story we keyed into,” Lincoln adds.
Danai Gurira, returning as Michonne, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing that the love story will be the driving force behind the series.
“Love stories tend to be a bit peripheral in The Walking Dead’s narrative,” Gurira notes. “So the idea of making a love story the thrust and the drive of a series was a new muscle.”
The Ones Who Live promises to offer a fresh perspective within The Walking Dead universe, focusing on the resilience of love amidst the challenges of survival in a post-apocalyptic world.
The series delves into the epic love story of two characters transformed by a world in turmoil. Rick and Michonne, kept apart by distance, an unstoppable force, and the shadows of their past selves, find themselves thrust into a new reality, shaped by a relentless battle against the undead and, ultimately, against the living. In this unfamiliar landscape, can they rediscover one another and reclaim their identities? Are they adversaries or soulmates? And without each other, do they even exist, or are they merely among the ranks of the Walking Dead?
Spearheaded by Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer of The Walking Dead Universe, the series features Andrew Lincoln, Danai Gurira, Denise Huth, and Brian Bockrath as showrunners and executive producers.
