Damsel, Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Starring Millie Bobby Brown, Unveils a Brave New Role
Netflix’s ‘Damsel’ trailer presents a surprising twist on the classic damsel in distress trope. Far from being a helpless princess, Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Princess Elodie, takes center stage in this thrilling tale of betrayal and courage.

Initially agreeing to a marriage to fulfill her royal duty, Elodie’s world is shattered when she uncovers a dark conspiracy within her own family. Betrayed and left to fend for herself in a cave guarded by a dragon, she realizes rescue is not forthcoming. Determined to rewrite her fate, Elodie embraces her inner strength and sets out on a journey of self-discovery.
Joining Brown in this epic adventure are Angela Bassett as Elodie’s stepmother, Lady Bayford, Robin Wright as Queen Isabelle, Ray Winstone as the King, Nick Robinson as Prince Henry, and Brooke Carter as Floria, Henry’s sister.
Directed by Fresnadillo and written by Dan Mazeau, ‘Damsel’ explores themes of self-reliance and bravery as Elodie fights against the odds to carve her own path in a world filled with deception and danger.
Director Praises Millie Bobby Brown’s ‘Exceptional’ Performance in Netflix’s ‘Damsel
Director Fresnadillo, renowned for his contributions to horror and thriller cinema, notably with the acclaimed ’28 Weeks Later’ (2007), the sequel to Danny Boyle’s ’28 Days Later’ (2002), commended Brown’s dedication and preparation for her role with effusive praise.
“She was exceptional. She understood that this needed to be an extreme survival experience. And in order to make that believable, you have to convey suffering and pain. This is a movie about a transformation – about a girl becoming a woman – and you need to really feel the intensity of it. We didn’t want to cheat any of that, and that’s why we pushed all the limits to make this a huge roller coaster of an experience for the audience.”
Damsel releases globally on Netflix on March 8, 2024. Check out the trailer now.
