Paramount+ has released the first teaser trailer for its upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 2 spin-off series, featuring Idris Elba reprising his role as Knuckles the echidna.
Directed by Jeff Fowler and produced by Paramount Pictures, the series, titled “Knuckles,” offers a sneak peek ahead of its expected Super Bowl TV spot this weekend.
In this fun-filled teaser, we get a glimpse into Knuckles’ world, introduced in the recent Sonic sequel. Initially an adversary to Sonic and Tails, Knuckles eventually joins forces with them, turning against Dr. Robotnik.
Set between the events of Sonic 2 and the upcoming third installment, the series follows Knuckles as he mentors deputy sheriff Wade Whipple (played by Adam Pally) while evading the grasp of Robotnik’s former associate, portrayed by Game of Thrones’ Rory McCann.
While Jim Carrey’s “Eggman” is not slated to make an appearance, it’s confirmed he’ll return for the third movie.
Idris Elba headlines the cast, joined by Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Tika Sumpter as Maddie Wachowski, and Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, alongside a star-studded lineup including Stockard Channing, Edi Patterson, Scott Mescudi, Ellie Taylor, Julian Barratt, Cary Elwes, Christopher Lloyd, Paul Scheer, and Rob Huebel.
“Knuckles allows audiences to catch up with red-quilled bruiser on his hilarious and action-packed journey of self-discovery as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior,” reads the show’s official logline.
The series, created by Toby Ascher and John Whittington, with Jeff Fowler directing the pilot, will consist of six episodes. They will debut on Paramount+ on April 26 in the U.S. and Canada, with a later release in Japan.
