Dragon Ball Z emerges victorious once again as the world’s premier legacy series, surpassing even the most popular live-action titles on a global scale.

Reclaiming its title as the globe’s most sought-after legacy series, Dragon Ball Z has outshined numerous popular titles worldwide, regardless of their medium or genre.

In the 6th Annual Global Demand Awards for Most In-Demand Legacy Series of 2023, Dragon Ball Z secured the top spot according to Parrot Analytics. Competing against a diverse array of contenders, including Mr. Bean, On The Buses, Seinfeld, and Star Trek: The Original Series, Dragon Ball Z stood out as the sole anime series nominated in its category.

Parrot Analytics defines a legacy series as one that concluded over two decades ago, emphasizing Dragon Ball Z’s enduring popularity and cultural impact.

This victory marks a triumphant return for Akira Toriyama’s beloved anime adaptation, which previously clinched the title in 2021. Parrot Analytics employs a data-driven algorithm to gauge demand, analyzing various factors such as search engine queries, streaming and download data, social media engagement, trailer views, and even data from unauthorized anime streaming sites and torrenting platforms. Through this comprehensive methodology, titles are evaluated and ranked based on their level of demand, with Dragon Ball Z reigning supreme once again.

Dragon Ball Z and Jujutsu Kaisen Surpass Non-Anime Competitors in 2023

At this year’s Annual Global Demand Awards, anime claimed significant victories beyond just Dragon Ball Z. Jujutsu Kaisen emerged as the most sought-after TV series worldwide, demonstrating anime’s broad appeal by surpassing major live-action titles like The Last of Us.

Akio Iyoku, Toriyama’s trusted collaborator, recently reminisced about Dragon Ball’s enduring success during a visit to South America years ago. Despite noticing a decline in the franchise’s popularity in one of its largest markets, Iyoku recognized the need for substantial investment to restore Dragon Ball to its former glory.

Crunchyroll’s announcement further highlights Dragon Ball’s global expansion. Over 800 episodes from the Dragon Ball franchise are slated to debut in the United Kingdom and France this month, enhancing the series’ international reach.

Described as follows on Crunchyroll, Dragon Ball Z follows Goku and the Z-Fighters as they defend humanity against intergalactic villains, embarking on quests across distant realms in pursuit of the mystical powers of the seven Dragon Balls.
