Confirmation of Toy Story 5 Release Window Unveils Return of Woody and Buzz Lightyear to Theaters. Toy Story 4, released in 2019, was initially thought to be the franchise’s finale, having amassed over $3.3 billion at the box office. However, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced a year ago that a fifth installment was in the works.
During Disney’s quarterly earnings call (via DiscussingFilm), Iger confirmed Toy Story 5’s 2026 release date, alongside Frozen 3.
What Should we Expect from Toy Story 5?

Although official confirmation of Toy Story 5’s cast and characters is pending, it’s hard to envision the sequel without Tom Hanks reprising his role as Woody and Tim Allen as Buzz Lightyear. Following the sequel’s announcement, Allen hinted at the return of Buzz and Woody, tweeting a memorable quote from the franchise and expressing excitement for the upcoming installment. Pixar’s chief creative officer Pete Docter echoed this sentiment, assuring fans that Woody and Buzz would indeed be back.
The announcement of Toy Story 5 sparked controversy among fans, who questioned the necessity of a fifth film given the acclaimed conclusion of Toy Story 4. Despite the scepticism, Docter defended the decision, emphasizing the potential for unexpected storytelling directions and surprises in the upcoming sequel. While many details about Toy Story 5 remain under wraps, it’s anticipated that audiences will embark on a new adventure with Woody and Buzz sometime in 2026.
