The iconic horror franchise “Saw” is gearing up for its eleventh instalment, and fans are in for a treat as a familiar face returns to the director’s chair. Kevin Greutert, known for his work on “Saw VI” (2009), “Saw: The Final Chapter” (2010), and “Saw X” (2023), is set to direct the upcoming “Saw XI.” Greutert’s expertise extends beyond directing, having also edited the first five installments of the series along with “Jigsaw.”
Horror enthusiasts may recognize Greutert from his other directorial ventures such as “Jessabelle” (2014), “Visions” (2015), and “Jackals” (2017). Excitement is building as Bloody Disgusting hints at more information about “Saw XI” to be revealed in the coming days or weeks.
Saw X Writers Not Return for Next Movie
Lionsgate officially announced “Saw 11” on December 11th through an Instagram post, confirming that “the game continues” on September 27, 2024. The eagerly awaited eleventh chapter in the enduring horror saga is being expedited by Lionsgate following the resounding critical and commercial triumph of 2023’s “Saw X.” However, despite the acclaim, “Saw XI” will not see the return of Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger, the renowned writing duo behind “Jigsaw,” “Spiral,” and “Saw X.”
In an update on their social media platform, Stolberg disclosed their decision to step away from the franchise.
“Pete and I are taking a break from this chapter. I’m genuinely excited to experience this one as a fan of the series. I believe audiences will be satisfied with the new team,” he shared, hinting at the arrival of their successors. Following fan disappointment over the news of a different writing team for “Saw 11,” Stolberg added, “THANK YOU to everyone for your kind words… Just recall your initial reactions to ‘Jigsaw’! HAHAHAHA. Truthfully, I’m incredibly thrilled to sit back and enjoy this fresh instalment as a fan!”
Will John Kramer Return?
While Tobin Bell’s portrayal of John Kramer remains synonymous with the Saw franchise, the beloved character met his demise in Saw III, leading subsequent films to utilize flashbacks to incorporate Kramer into the narrative. However, Saw X took a different approach by serving as a prequel, positioned between the events of Saw and Saw II. In this critically acclaimed sequel, John Kramer embarks on a journey to Mexico for an experimental treatment aimed at curing his cancer. Upon discovering the fraudulent nature of the operation, Kramer takes matters into his own hands, capturing the perpetrators and subjecting them to a series of intricate and horrifying traps.
As of the latest updates, casting details for Saw XI have not been revealed. Speculation suggests that the upcoming installment could potentially explore another prequel, offering Tobin Bell the opportunity to reprise his iconic role as Jigsaw. Alternatively, the film might incorporate Jigsaw through flashback sequences, allowing for a storyline set in the present day.
Saw XI is set to hit theatres on September 27, 2024, promising another thrilling chapter in the enduring horror franchise.
