Tim Burton, known for his work on “Beetlejuice” and Gillian Flynn, the mastermind behind “Gone Girl,” are joining forces to reimagine the ’50s B-movie cult favourite, “Attack of the 50-Foot Woman.
Tim Burton, known for his iconic works like “Beetlejuice” and “Dumbo,” has unveiled his next project: a remake of the ’50s sci-fi horror cult classic “Attack of the 50-Foot Woman.”

Burton will take the directorial reins, while acclaimed writer Gillian Flynn, renowned for her work on “Gone Girl,” will craft the script.
The original film, produced with a modest budget of just $88,000 USD in 1958, followed the tumultuous journey of Nancy Archer, an heiress whose life takes a bizarre turn after an encounter with a UFO. Despite her desperate attempts to convince others of her extraordinary experience, including her unfaithful husband Harry and his mistress Honey, Nancy’s transformation into a giantess cannot be denied.
The film garnered unexpected success, and its iconic poster remains a timeless symbol of the era. A previous remake in 1993, directed by Christopher Guest and featuring Daryl Hannah as Nancy, aimed to infuse the story with a feminist perspective but failed to impress critics, earning a meager 30% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Joining Burton on the production team are Andrew Mittman, Tommy Harper, and executive producer Kai Dolbashian.
The director behind “The Batman” is undeniably well-suited for this genre, having left his mark on ’50s sci-fi classics with 1996’s “Mars Attacks!” and brought the tale of Ed Wood, the filmmaker behind “Plan 9 From Outer Space,” to life in 1994. Additionally, he ventured into the realm of remakes with “Planet of the Apes” in 2001.
Gillian Flynn, known for adapting her own novel “Gone Girl” into the acclaimed film directed by David Fincher, has also made waves with her work on the Emmy-nominated HBO series “Sharp Objects.” HBO is currently developing a new adaptation of her bestseller “Dark Places,” where Flynn will serve as co-showrunner and head writer.
