Supergirl’s DCU Casting Nears Conclusion: Two Finalists Emerge
The casting hunt for Supergirl in the DC Universe is reaching its climax, as sources indicate that only two contenders remain in contention for the coveted role.

As per a recent report from THR, the final shortlist for the role of Supergirl in the DCU has been unveiled. Among the finalists is Milly Alcock, recognized for her standout portrayal as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the acclaimed Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. The second contender vying for the role is Meg Donnelly, known for her roles in Disney’s Zombies franchise and her recent appearance in the Supernatural spinoff series, The Winchesters.
While both Alcock and Donnelly were previously mentioned as potential candidates alongside others, this latest development suggests that the casting decision is now down to these two talented actresses.
Potential Supergirl Casting Buzz: Animated Voice Actress Meg Donnelly in the Running

Among the final two contenders for the live-action portrayal of Supergirl in the DCU, Meg Donnelly stands out due to her previous experience voicing the character in animated DC films. Donnelly has lent her voice to Supergirl starting with 2023’s Legion of Super-Heroes and continues in the recent Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths movie series, which premiered its first segment this month. Notably, members of the Crisis on Infinite Earths team have expressed support for Donnelly’s potential casting in the live-action role, endorsing her as a “great” choice.
DC Studios, under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran, are in the early stages of developing a Supergirl feature film titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The project, with Ana Nogueira penning the script, is still without a director attached. While production isn’t slated to commence anytime soon, the urgency to finalize the casting for Supergirl aligns with Gunn and Safran’s strategy to introduce the character within the DCU, possibly in Superman: Legacy, before headlining her standalone film.

In the cinematic realm, Supergirl’s latest appearance was portrayed by Sasha Calle in the 2023 film The Flash. While initial reports hinted at a potential standalone Supergirl spinoff, those plans were scrapped following The Flash’s lackluster performance at the box office. Furthermore, there’s speculation that James Gunn and Peter Safran might have considered recasting the character, given the DCU’s detachment from the DCEU, although some familiar faces from the DCEU may return in the new universe.
Superman: Legacy, slated for release on July 11, 2025, is anticipated to mark Supergirl’s debut within the DCU cinematic universe, potentially setting the stage for her forthcoming adventures.
