Making its debut in the iconic Ghostbusters of 1984, the voracious ghost, Slimer, marked its first official capture by the titular team within the eerie confines of New York City’s Sedgewick Hotel. This memorable scene witnessed the Ghostbusters donning their proton packs for the very first time. Slimer returned for an encore in the 1989 sequel, Ghostbusters II, and continued to haunt screens in the subsequent animated series, The Real Ghostbusters.

Slimer is Back – Funny and Troublesome as Ever!

Prepare for the resurgence of the mischievous Slimer in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, scheduled to hit theatres in March. This anticipated instalment not only brings back the iconic ghost but also reunites the original Ghostbusters squad, featuring the reprisal of roles by Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Dan Aykroyd. As the narrative unfolds, we’ll witness the return of the youthful team introduced in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, including Mckenna Grace’s Phoebe Spengler and Finn Wolfhard as Trevor.

Having donned the proton packs in the previous film, they are poised to carry on the ghost-fighting legacy, ushering in a new era of spectral adventures. Mark your calendars for a March release and get ready for a riveting blend of old and new in the Ghostbusters universe.

Crafted by Jason Reitman, the offspring of the original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, Ghostbusters: Afterlife emerged as a compelling blend of a soft reboot and a legacy sequel to Ghostbusters II. This film marked the remarkable reunion of the original cast after a hiatus of 32 years, even bringing back the late Harold Ramis as a spectral presence.

As anticipation builds for the sequel, it’s notable that Jason Reitman will not be at the helm this time. Instead, the directorial reins have been handed over to Gil Kenan, co-writer of Afterlife and the acclaimed director of Poltergeist. The transition in direction adds an intriguing layer to the Ghostbusters legacy, promising a fresh perspective under Kenan’s guidance for the upcoming instalment.

Although met with mixed to negative critical reviews, Ghostbusters: Afterlife demonstrated its financial prowess by raking in over $200 million against a modest budget of $75 million. This success underscored the enduring profitability of the franchise, prompting Sony Pictures Entertainment, the film’s distributor, to give the green light to a sequel.

Scheduled for release in March, perfectly timed to coincide with the franchise’s 40th anniversary, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is set to mark this milestone with a wave of nostalgia. Sony has commemorated the anniversary by unveiling a range of retro-themed merchandise, building anticipation for the upcoming film.

Save the date – Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire hits theatres exclusively on March 22, promising fans a thrilling cinematic experience in celebration of four decades of ghostbusting adventures.
