After enduring months of delays, the much-anticipated Tron 3, also known as Tron: Ares, has officially entered the filming stage. Director Joachim Rønning took to his Instagram account to share exciting behind-the-scenes glimpses, making the long-awaited announcement. While the new images cleverly keep the movie’s details under wraps, they offer a sneak peek at the director’s chair featuring the stylized name “TR3N” and a closer look at the clapperboard in action during production.

At the close of the previous year, Collider provided an exclusive report, unveiling that the production of the third Tron installment was poised to commence ‘right after the holidays.’ Although the exact holiday was initially ambiguous, it now appears that the turning of the new year signaled the commencement of the sequel’s filming.

It’s been 13 years since Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner reprised their iconic roles in the 2010 film Tron: Legacy, with Garrett Hedlund joining as Kevin Flynn’s (Bridges) son, Sam, and Olivia Wilde stepping into the pivotal role of Quorra. Regrettably, as of this update, there’s no indication of the return of these four actors for Tron: Ares.

Taking the lead in Tron 3 is the Oscar-winning actor Jared Leto, who will bring the titular character, Ares, to life. Leto’s remarkable talent, showcased in films like American Psycho, Dallas Buyers Club, and Suicide Squad, has solidified his place in the industry. Notably, Leto recently ventured into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2022 as the star of Sony’s Spider-Man spin-off, Morbius, joining the ranks of actors who have navigated both DC Comics and Marvel’s expansive universes.

Adding to the roster of newcomers for Tron: Ares alongside Jared Leto are Cameron Monaghan and Evan Peters. As of the current update, there is no officially announced release date for the much-anticipated Tron sequel.
